Q.No: 25 Why Ethanoic acid is more soluble than Ethanol in water ???

Reasoning Question Series
Q.No: 25 Why Ethanoic acid is more soluble than Ethanol in water ???
Ans:
Because ethanoic acid is higher polar than ethanol
1.Polarity order in organic compounds:
Amide > Acid > Alcohol > Ketone ~ Aldehyde > Amine > Ester > Ether > Alkane
2. Ethanoic acid forms resonance structure
3. It can form the hydreogen bonding in water.
Ethanoic acid has one additional oxygen atom than ethanol thus forming extra hydrogen bond.
4.According to Bronsted and Lowry defined :
An acid as a proton (H^+) donor.
When ethanoic acid dissolves in water, it donates H^+ to the water, hence it is said to be acidic whereas ethanol in water does not dissociate to any appreciable amount.
Ethanoic acid is a weak acid, but it dissociates about 10^11 times more than ethanol.
