Reasoning Question Series
Q:7 Why is graphite soft and slippery?
Ans :
1. Graphite Soft and slippery Many strong covalent bonds holding the structure together but only in 2 dimensions. The layers are free to slide easily over one another.
2. The forces of attraction between the layers of carbon are very weak. The layers can slide over each other. This explains why graphite is soft and slippery.
